Delta Electronics VFB25ADH Breez 110 CFM Humidity Sensor Exhaust Fan, 1.2 Sones
  • Energy Star Certified with DC Motor technology
  • Noise level at 1.2 sones
  • Annual energy cost for 24/7 operation is approximately $17.71
  • Self adjusting motor to humidity levels - Fan will come on at low speed when the relative humidity level reaches 60%.
  • Blue and amber LED indicator lights to show humidity sensor mode and full speed mode

I searched and researched many humidity sensing fans as it eliminates the forgetfulness of either not turning the fan on, or not leaving it on long enough to remove the moisture. This unit has great sone rating, had a variable DC motor a lot of features that the extremely expensive units offered but for the best cost. Shipping was great, began my install and upon completing it, I was excited to take my first shower to see how it does. I liked how the install could be done on one switch. Turn it on and the LED is blue for humidity sensing mode. Flip the switch off then back on and it is in full power, orange LED. Back off for a second and back on to get back to humidity sensing. I also like the subtle blue glow from the LED at night with no lights on. Almost like a night light feature.

Heres the bad after showering and leaving the room for some time, I came back to find the fan still running at low speed. I left it overnight and realized after a full day or more the fan never shut off. I then verified with a digital humidity meter that the humidity was 35-37%. I figured that could be the discrepancy between the two sensors. A day later I turned off my whole house humidifier, we had very low temperatures near zero and the entire house dropped into the 20% RH range. I placed my digital meter on top of the vanity within a foot of the fan reading 23% for an entire day and the fan was still running. The 40% humidity set point as documented was not right, and even at 40% it is too low. They say for comfort the average home should be anywhere from 30-50% humidity?? Why set a fan at 40?, let alone 20 something although it didnt even go off for that so maybe it is et at 10%, 0%? Who knows. It doesn;t work and is sucking out my heat 24/7 in "Humidity Mode". For now its just a regular old switched fan..BTW my digital meter and my humidistat both were the same so they are accurate.

Anyway I contacted Delta and they advised this is a very common problem and had received several calls just the morning that I called. Basically admitted that the sensor sucks and they are working on an adjustable sensor to be retrofitted to pre existing units. But, it will not be available until sometime in the summer.

Since I just about killed myself being a contortionist in the attic and moving around the insulation, doing the wiring, etc. and finally getting it all back together I did not take up their offer of returning it. I'm hopeful that they will do good by their word and provide a properly working humidity sensor and make this fan work the way it is suppose to and the reason I spent the extra money on humidity sensing. If that happens it is a great buy and awesome fan.

UPDATE Item was returned. Did not work as described and never turned off. Also, still had foggy mirrors although the CFM I needed per common calculations was only 70cfm. This was well over sized and still did not clear the

room.

I have since installed the BROAN humidity sensing unit which works wonderful! Turns on almost immediately after the shower starts and then turns off as expected. Glad I made the switch. Also, the BROAN is the same CFM but now keeps the room & mirrors clear!

I would have to agree whole heartedly with the VERY accurate rating that Mike C. gave this unit. I also searched for weeks and did my homework to find the quietest, and best fitting for the demand, bathroom fan. We have just finished rebuilding a open floorplan modern home and wanted each shower room to have automatic fan to keep the tile walls and floors from steaming up and possibly mildewing. This fan is VERY quiet, but it will NOT turn off. It will NOT draw the moisture out of the room the way our Broan HS fan will. We have since gone to 3 of the Broans and marked this up as money lost. Hope I can save you the same fate. BROAN Humidity Sensing worked for us.

The fan is pretty quiet, I have a small bathroom, so I have no problem with the ventilation. For larger bathrooms, you might need a beefier fan.I like the two speed humidity control, I would advise a timer switch to turn off after like 30 min

I purchased this unit from another source in February of 2012, but we didn't install it until July of 2012. And we didn't use it much for the first few months because we had the windows open. Then when we did start wanting it to work as advertised, it didn't and we thought perhaps we had installed it incorrectly. Ditto other reviewers. The sensor never shuts the fan completely off, although it does a good job of ramping-up the fan speed when the humidity level goes up (when the shower turns on). When we installed it, we put a kill switch on the fan so that we could manually turn it off, but that sort of defeats the point of having the sensor in the first place. I am in the middle of working with the manufacturer to remedy (sub other model or refund). I was also told by Delta that the sensor on this model is "non-replaceable". Although when you take the grill off it is clearly, and easily wired on the face of the fan box. Seems like it would be an easy fix, if they have a sensor that actually works. We'll see. Bottom line-very quiet fan but if the humidity sensor is the reason you're looking at this don't buy it.

Fan is quiet, easy to install and in a day of tighter homes, guarantees fan runs long enough to remove humidity after showers.
